I just put a Cobra Exhaust system on my 1986 Bayou 300 2WD ATV and it is WAY louder than the stocker I took off. Please give me ideas that will help me quiet this thing down. Any and all suggestions are welcomed and I thank you in advance.

Hillsville69--The stock system was shot and I disposed of it. I don't know if the machine goes faster or not--that was not my objective in changing the muffler. I was tired of the exhaust leaking through the existing pipes and hitting my right leg. The Cobra was about the only aftermarket muffler I saw listed for my particular machine. What else is available that would make less noise?

Unfortunately, I've heard this complaint (from other people) about Cobra pipes. That is, no performance increase, just volume. I've never seen any suggestions for controlling the sound level. You might have to try another pipe. Have you looked at a Supertrapp IDS2?

If you dont need performance gains why dont you just go to your local dealer and get a stock pipe? DG makes the Brute Silent Core Muffler. Its in the rocky mountain off road catalog for 134.99. Good luck.

If u think that a cobra pipe is too loud, (which i do) u should hear my friends 250x that had a cobra pipe, but he decided to take the silencer of and run a straight pipe. Its way too loud, u can hear him when hes about a mile away, and im refusing to ride with him untill he fixes it....

LOUDEST ATV ON EARTH= My friends 350x with a 8 year old Cobra pipe. you want the definition of straight thru exhaust? If you look into the silencer you can see the valves! His bike is twice as loud as my 440 with a Sparks pipe.

Cobras do help performance. A friend of mine had one on his 250x. It helped a lot
