NAPA Snorkle Install
#1
Here is some backgroud info -
machine - 04 STP 700
stock jets 138/142 (ran great)
All at one time I modded the stock muffler (6 3/8 holes through all four baffles), added a k&n filter, and installed a napa snorkle. I rejetted to 142/145, turned the air screws out to three turns, and left the needles alone. Started right up but there was a popping in the air box and the machine was missing at 1/3 to half throttle. At this point I tried adjusting the air screws all the way out to four turns and all the way in to 2 turns - didn't help. Asked on here and everyone said that popping in the air box is a lean condition so I left the air screws out and tried combos of jets at 145/148 and 148/152 and none of them worked! Now that last combo was really rich so I can't imagine going any larger than this. So then I shimmed my needles and again there was no help (i would say i went up about .75 to 1mm). At this point I was about ready to return to stock and tried removing that darn snorkle and putting the stock one back on. Even with the super rich jetting the popping was gone so I left the stock snorkle on removed the shims on the needles, went back to 142/145 mains 2.5 turns on the air screw and the thing seems to run fine (plugs read good) I would still like to finish the intake mod - any ideas?
Is it even worth while?
Thanks in advance!

Have you checked your plugs? What do they look like? You might have to use new plugs to get an accurate plug reading. With snorkles you get alot more air and usuallly colder air, those jets you used were not that rich. You also might have a lean condition from the needle being to small. BF owners have a low speed miss too, it was because the needle was to small. You can either buy a different needle or shim. Don't ask me what size or how to shim it because I have no clue, lol.
Good luck.
Good luck.

House ful of Kawi's, if you are interested I have a pic of a mod, of a mod on the napa air snorkel. I love it on my 700/650, not to sure how it would work on the 750( dif set up on the air box I am told).

That's exactly the kind of mod that I'm interested in but what size jets are you running, where are your air screws, did you shim your needles?
Also what elevation are you at?
Thanks, SASKRIDER
