Default Transmission broke help

I was just wondering if any of you guys have had any transmission problems with there other thanlose mount bolts or simple fixes. The 02 650 had some bad gears in it when mike penland rebult it. Now i have a 04 700 and the transmission is clicking like theres a lose gear in it so i called mike and he said form what it sounded like it was definitely the transmission. He had the gears that i needed in his had as we spoke. This unit only has 25hrs and 94 miles. I bought it from a dealer 2nd hand it was just out of warranty when i got it but it only had 16hrs & 50 miles on it and now its broke any one know of anything i could say or do to persuade kawasaki to help me out in any way???????

If you only put 44 mi. on it you bet that dealer should fix it ! Thats usually one ride! You need to go in there foaming at the mouth and threatening everything short of killing him. If you are loud enough when there are customers in there he will do something. I have tried the nice guy routine and it doesnt work this instance was on a car I bought that the tranny went bad in one week , of normal driving, I kept at him and he replaced the tranny twice before they got it right at no cost to me.Even if he gave you a 30 day warr. and it was over it was only 44 mi.in 9 hrs. thats an average of 5 mph. that does not sound like you were hammering it to me.Have the mindset that he has to repair this prob free of charge or you will take him to court. He sold it - some dealers will put them on the front line for sale knowing that there is something wrong with them. They wait until people report something is wrong and if the consumer dont well then the dealer made his $$$$. Good luck!!!

But i don't want to pay the stealer $65hr for them and customer service just to say they can't help me! This really stinks becase of the amount i paid for this unit.

Default Transmission broke help

Clicking like a loose gear might be shifter adjust. Try the easy and cheap stuff first.... less stress

When I first got mine, it would "click" in low range. I actually thought it was supposed to do that and you could only go so fast in low range.... until I got my service manual and fixed the shifter....

Might just be the shifter. Mine was bad from the factory....

Default Transmission broke help

Rattlebars has the goody answer, Sledgehammer. I would second his advice to you. My quad had a similar problem and it was solved by a simple adjustment of the shifter linkage. (See Nyroc's site for the shifter linkage adjustment details at his site. URL is: http://atv.dnsalias.com/forum.cgi). Nyroc has very good information and it is all very solid stuff. (My hat's off to the Nyroc!)

You will find that there is no detent to properly position the transmission gears anywhere inside the tranny. The sole and only detent in the design of the Kawi 650 and 700 is that located on the plastic detent rack, located just below the shift-lever ****. If that shifter linkage is out of adjustment, then the gear selected may just barely engage with its mating gear inside the tranny, and if there are any small irregularities in the machining of the gears, then the result of a partial engagement will be a "clicking sound" and/or a tendency for the quad to jump out of gear, on the fly. That is a potentially catastrophic event!

If you are interested in more, see my earlier post (on Nyrocs site) regarding another simple mod that you can do to the shift lever detent rack, with a round file, to improve it's gear-position stability, when operating under heavy load on a rough trail at speed.

Good luck with the fix!

and keep in mind for future reference, if a dealer has an ATV or car back in inventory with those few miles on it, theres something wrong with it! Nobody buys a new vehicle and trades it in that quick unless it's a piece of sh*t. They will tell you whatever they want to make you believe it's a good vehicle, say it was a demo unit or whatever, but the bottom line is.....if they got it back from somebody with those few miles, it's a POS.

I checked the mount and took the lever off at the trans. and still clicking. it sounds like a tooth near the rear of the motor has a chip in it. The stealer told me to bring it in said it would be 300.00 just to tare it down and we would go from there. I told them that i could'nt afford to pay them if kawasaki was not going do anything about this. He said kawasaki was good about things like this but no guarantee. The money i would give them could go towards mike penland doing it right.I also can save time and money if i take the motor off myself. I've rebuilt a few hondas and kwasaki's but those four timming chain really scare me!!! What would you mechanics do. It would'nt brother near as bad if had more miles on it. This REALLY SUCKS!!!!!!!!

I would take lots of pictures of it as it sits now, to prove its in good un-abused shape, the more stuff you take apart, the less likely they will be to help you at all. Court threats wont help if you are outside your warranty period, actually that will only shut them down to you as they know you dont have a legal leg to stand on. I doubt they are going to stiff you on such a fresh purchase so I would let them have it back under the pretense that you wont pay until you hear from Kawasaki, and maybe not even then. Those 26 inch mudlites wont help your case at all, whenever they see oversized tires, they deny like crazy. That is unless they were on it when you bought it.
