Tecates are really fast i heard that they can take a 250r like 80mph not sure though, well their a 2 stroke so there not as much bottom end as if it were a 4 stroke but it still is really fast. They are rare as hell to and hard to find but if you can get your hands on one do it, tecates are a living legend just like the 250r's.

I believe top speed is around 75MPH with stock gearing.

All of the older machines Tecate, 250R, QuadRacer and QuadZilla, were/are fast. Never saw a side-by-side comparison of today’s 4-stroke racers, but I believe in any straight-line run the older 2-stokes would out accelerate any newer quad. Now out handling is a different story. Although the 250R has the revolutionary geometry it still didn't have the suspension of today's racers. I wonder if any one has a custom bike with a new chassis and an older 2-stoke power plant. I think that would be hard to beat in any terrain. I miss my old Tri-Z three wheeler, that thing would absolutely fly if it had wings. It looked really cool for it's day too (Black w/gold wheels and duel headlights) I wish I still had it.
Just for the record I didn't forget about the only living dinosaur left the Banshee. Great motor there also, just doesn't handle like the newer machines, unless Yamaha did any upgrades I'm unaware of. It seems like since 88 or so(not sure when the first shee came out) all Yamaha did to this machine is change the color and add new graphics.

They did change from "J-Arm" to "A-Arm" in 90 or 91, but that was more for strength than handling I think.
