Default Prairie cams

Anyone put cams in prairie 650 or 700. Who makes cams for them and how hard are they to install.

Hotcams, Webb Cams, Four Stroke Tech (FST), Penland Brothers Racing (PBR) all have cams for the 650/700. I've had Penland Brothers since 02. Added some more mid & top end power.

Haven't seen a Dyno of actual horsepower improvements with the various cams. With new cams be sure they are degreed in correctly, carbs are jetted correctly, and you have a better exhaust & Airfilter since your valves will be opened longer than stock.

Webb Cams (cheaper price) and PBR cams are suppose to be the same cam, FST cams are geared more towards Modded/Higher compression engine, and haven't had much feedback on the Hot Cams.

Inspect the cams when you get them/before install to ensure gear rotates freely and decompression springs are working and not binding. Had my Cams Installed at the first valve adjustment. Luckily my Mechanic at the dealership caught this and took the decompression springs from my old cams before returning them for core.

Happy Trails

Stock V-force cams also work on a P650/P700. Installed them myself...not too difficult if you have the P650 service manual(also used a really good write-up on the install written by Dirtywhiteboy last summer and posted on the nation)...worst part for me was adjusting the valves after it was done! I'm not overly impressed with the stock V-force cams...they seem to improve acceleration at mid to top-end, but nothing drastic. I do think I got my moneys worth tho...got'em cheap b/c they were used.

Happy trails...

If your not doing it within the next week or two I will be giving feedback on the hotcams as well. I dint really compare prices with others but I mainly went with those because they dont have a core charge, and I like having the stock parts I remove (just in case). Besides the FST (mostly for BB kits) I would bet there all pretty close to the same. I will be having my heads done at the same time since they will be off anyway. So I wont be able to say how much is cams and how much is heads. Tuffenuf has been a big help on my cam research. Tuffenuf I sent a PM on what I found out.
