Some people think the bike rides better off-road without the brace. I don't have one and have not looked into the different makes. Sounds like you are well on your way to tricking out your KLR. I'm looking forward to getting mine out this spring. If I'm lucky and have a warm spring, I'll be able to get it out and ride it in April.

Are you going to do the counter balancer chain tensioner upgrade? I keep meaning to but haven't done so yet. A couple other potential problem areas are the clutch interlock switch and weak subframe bolts. The only one that has cause me any trouble is the clutch switch. Fortunately my switch malfunctions and allows me to start the bike with clutch in or out. I'm going to disable the system.

From the little riding I did offroad, I think the fork brace will give some stability.

Haven't looked into the chain tensioner upgrade...yet.

I plan on doing the subframe upgrade and also putting the locking nuts on the motor mounts. There are a few things to do yet....low profile magnetic oil drain bolt, headlight guard, additional lights for night driving, etc etc

Just bought a one owner 93 klx650 with 6500 miles for $2000. Is that a good deal, good condition with supertrap exhaust. Is there a 650 web site ? Anything I should do the the bike for updates?

There are alot of KLR650 websites and modifications. I've made some stuff for the bike, others I bought, still adding stuff. For KLR stuff, go to:

Dual Star

I just put in a relay/fuse panel on mine, here is a pic:

Relay/Fuse Panel

I also added some extra lighting with a headlight guard:

PIAA Lights

I've changed the lights around alittle to get more clearance from the fender and changed the nuts/bolts so they were in the same direction. On the relay/fuse panel, I'm going to wire in a lighter outlet to power my GPS that is handlebar mounted. I built an aluminum panel that goes just inside the fairing/windshield, that I can mounted switches, the power outlet, etc. Still doing mods, few other things to do. Put on a aluminum skid plat, master cyliner cover, etc.

- Big Gun exhaust
- Dynojet kit
- K&N filter
- External Air Mixture screw
- Rear Rack and bag
- Saddlebags
- Headlight guard
- PIAA 35 Watt Ion lights
- Happy Trails fork brace
- Battery Gauge
- Master Cylinder guard
- Dual Star Aluminum Skid Plate
- Engine guard/highway foot pegs
- Stainless braided brake lines
- Miltary Heavy duty brake mount
- Stainless mesh reusable oil filter

What is coming in this week
- Progressive 420 Rear shock
- Progressive front fork springs
- Low profile magnetic oil drain bolt

guess then i'll do the doohickey mod at some point...
