Default BF 650 CDI or module????

Alex: brutebadger and alltoys are right. I looked up the CDI part numbers on buykawasaki.com for all the Prairies and the BF's. There are 3 different CDI's for the Prairies and the BF's combined, as shown below.

Igniter Part Numbers

2002 KVF650-A1: 21119-1598 ('02 Prairie 650 - Dyna DFS2-12)
2003 KVF650-A2: 21119-0004 ('03 Prairie 650 - Dyna DFS2-13)
2004 KVF700-A1: 21119-0004 ('04 Prairie 700 - Dyna DFS2-14)
2005 KVF700-A2: 21119-0004 ('05 Prairie 700 - Not listed on Dynatek site...Scott said same as '03P650)
2005 KVF650-D1: 21119-0004 ('05 BF 650 - Not listed on Dynatek site...Same Kawi no. as '03P650)
2005 KVF750-A1: 21119-0025 ('05 Brute Force 750 - Not listed as 650 or 750...Different Kawi part no.)

Conclusion: All the Dynatek CDI's (called igniters on Kawi's parts diagrams) are the same design for the '03, '04, '05 Prairies, and for the '05 BF 650 also since it has the same 21119-0004 Kawi part number that the others have.

The '02P650 and '05BF750 both have different Kawi part numbers and are different designs.

Dynatek should stand behind the DFS2-13 for the BF650, since it is replacing the same igniter that is on the '03-'05 Prairies, '05BF650.

brutebadger: I wonder if the CDI is the same for the BF750, as Scott told you, since Kawi gives it a different part number from the rest....they must have done something to it to make it a different part. Maybe whatever changed does not affect the timing curve. Scott should know since he is up on all of this (except the BF650).

He could send you and Alex a DFS2-13 for free testing. Ask him, as there are quite a few BF650 owners out there, which is another market for him.

Default BF 650 CDI or module????

Wow kawiyowee, thanks for the info. That is great. I knew it was the same but cancelled my order anyway after talking to Dynatek. But I did take your advice. I just finished emailing Scott and shared with him the info that you have posted about the igniter #s and also offered my services as a guinea pig for testing. I guess we'll see what his conclusion is over the Brute 650. Hopefully, he will share some good news and let me try it out, or if not I will probably just buy it and hope I don't get burned. Which I doubt I would.

wyowilderness: FYI, I saw the stock igniter for your machine for about $280 (not $400 - $450) on Ron Ayers website. Dyna's CDI is still less expensive and better performing at $248.

Default BF 650 CDI or module????

kawiyowee, Thanks, that's a big difference. My local dealer told me $400-$450 for the part. The reason I brought the machine to him was the belt light came on at 122 hours and under 1,000 miles. I figured it needed to be reset and I figured I might as well get the belts and fluids checked while it's there. That's when he said one half of the CDI was burned out. Everything still works fine, just the belt light is on. I'll get the Dyna before summer comes along. Right now I can't go very far due to the snow and the fact that it's too cold to be walking out if I do break down. At least the Grizzlies are sleeping.

Default BF 650 CDI or module????

Well, I finally got a reply from Scott at Dynatek. This is what he had to say...

Thanks for the info and the offer to test. As I noted before I am in Indy but will be in the office on Wednesday then I leave again for 6 days. We are presently out of stock but I will talk to the Engineer and see what he thinks and then I may be able to send one to test. I will let you know.

Scott

...I will let you know what his reply is when I get it.

Hopefully everything works out good and I can get one here as soon as they are available. Then I will let you all know how things went.
