It varies alot state to state and which insurance carrier you use.. I'm in NJ and my CBR 1100 with full coverage use to run me just under $400 a year with State Farm. I use to have Rider insurance on my VFR 750 and was paying about $650yr for full coverage. they were much more expensive for a lesser CC bike,, best is to check if you auto insurance company writes motorcycle polices other wise just check around with other companys in your area and get quotes from them,,,

I agree with Matt. Same here, also in Jersey and insure a 12r and a 636 through State Farm. They only ask how many cc's and if it has a turbo, unlike others that raise the rates for any bike with a "R" designation. I pay about $700 per year for the both sportbikes and a KTM 625. I have full coverage on the 12r and liability only on the 636 and the Katoom.

In New York I pay about 350 for liability and comp, no collision on a Z1000. Depending on your age, driving record and the weight of the bike, it can get pretty high. Up here, the less weight, the higher the insurance. My Z weighs in at about 400lbs. MY Honda Nighthawk weighs over 600, and the insurance is about half the cost of the Z. I'm also 30 y/o with a decently clean driving record. Shop around.

Also depends on your age and driving record of course.
I remember back when I got my first bike at 17, and they wanted 4200$ a year for full covereage... needless to say I only got minimum coverage.
If this will be your first bike, GET FULL COVERAGE. You will wreck. Its not anything against you, just %89 of riders wreck their first bike within 3 months of purchase.
Also, invest in frame sliders and a nice joe rocket or similar jacket.
Have fun ! and most importantly... watch out for the middle aged blonde women in suburbans... they tend to leave a mark.

I own a "93" Yamaha FZR and have the cheapest liability I can get and pay $40 per month for 11 months (Progressive my age 30). Or I could of had 4 paymets a year at $110. Sport Bikes are not cheap, they are all speed and I don't care which kind you are ridding. If you have good health insurance where you work get the cheap rate. The only reason I say that is if you spill it going fast chances are you won't want it back. Have fun!
