Took out Dial A Jets...Don't miss them
I bought my machine used with them installed. Well after fooling around with the Dial A Jets for months, I've decided to remove them and go back to stock jets. I jetted down to 130/135 like others in my area and it still ran way rich. I didn't want to jet down any more than that because its just scary, below I'll tell you why. I have'nt been out riding yet, just testing on my street, but so far I'm happy with how it runs. Seat of the pants its way better, midrange is way better but I haven't done top speed yet. I also threw in a new yellow driven spring, the original is .200" below spec and just worn out.
Here are the reasons why I removed them:
1. Running so rich the stink is so bad, nobody wants to follow me (which usually is the case:smile I actually had gas pooling in my air box, so much I don't think it was normal.
2. Jetted down to 130/135, scary because I've seen how fast the intake tubes and injectors get dirty and jetting down 2 or more sizes and having these fail would be instant death to my engine.
3. Adjusting them made a difference with varying temps, but when the temp changes 50 degrees in one day, it just becomes a hassle, and I have no need for them really because we don't have mountains in MN.
4. The quality of the hardware (plastic) isn't really designed to be fiddled with on a daily basis anyway, I started seeing wear on the adjust screws etc.
5. Seeing the tubing getting kinked, heated up etc. just worried me too much.
6. I'm not willing to spend money on a high performance exhaust and after all the fooling around I did with them my buddy on his stocker beats me good from 40+mph on.
I just feel better not having the possible headaches and extra maint on them. I'm happy the way it is now so far. I'll update when I get some riding miles on next week.

Sounds like you made the right decision. Enjoyed your photos. I'm from MN also. Get to the BWCA at least once each year. Also live on a lake, but don't get to use it as much as I would like to. Nice looking wheels on the Prairie. Stay warm and hope for an early spring.

Thanx for this post.
I recently broke some expensive parts on my 2003 P650 at a race (the Maxxis 6 hours of TX race) and don't want to spend the big $$ to repair it. Now I'm planning to part out my quad (but will keep the modded parts for a used 2002 P650 that I just bought). Anyway, my point is that I'm now trying to decide what to do about the air box. I know I want to replace the restrictive 2002 airbox with a newer model air box. My choices are to use my 2003 airbox (which contains the DAJs) or I can sell that part and buy a brand new 2003 airbox without DAJs. My quad runs ok with DAJs, but I'd like to see how it runs without them, so I'm probably going to do the latter choice. I hope my results are as good as yours.
Happy trails...

I just plugged the holes with silicone and gasket material, I'm sure with some searching you can find the right size rubber plugs to just plug them too. I didn't hate them, I just couldn't justify needing them vs. all the risks of having them.
Good luck with yours!
