Does anyone like Kawi's plastic racks?

I don't know what it is and perhaps I'm in the minority, but I have a dislike for composite racks. They are big, flat, cheap looking, ugly, and I even think they fade easily. At least Polaris has lots of slots in theirs. Also, they are expensive to replace when they break. I dunno, I just think they ruin the look of a good bike. I'll take good ol' metal racks anytime I'd love to be convinced otherwise!

I agree with you. But looks aside, I prefer the heavy duty functional aspects of steel tube cargo racks.

This past summer I managed to get in some deep water in Racoon Creek in Pennsylvania and drown my Bayou 400. It took two SP500s in tandem to pull me out against the rain swollen current.

Because of the depth of the water and the speed of the current, I hooked my towrope to my front cargo rack. The force necessary to extract my Bayou from the stream slightly bent my front rack, but otherwise did no damage.

I don't know that a composite rack would have fared that well. And certainly the little tie-down loops as found on most of them would not have been big enough, or strong enough, to withstand the force required to tow me from the creek.

One of the reasons that I did not buy a Prarrie 400. My local dealer sells AC, Suzuki & Kawi. Metal racks are a lot more sturdy.

When I bought my Prairie 400 auto, I asked the dealer if the metal racks from the 2x4,s would fit. They did and he was happy to swap racks replacing the composite with tublar. It sure looks a lot better. I think we get enough plastic on quads as it is!
