Default procedure for oiling the air filter

I have never had a quad that required oiling the air filter, I always just washed them out, dried them and put them back on. can somebody give me a quick once over on the process? what oil to buy, how often to do it and how to do it right? thanks in advance. I ride in very dusty conditions most of the time, although I havent done that yet.

get some spray oil...IMO it's faster and easier...don't get the filter dripping wet with the oil...just make a couple nice light passes and let it dry then put it on the quad...if it's a foam filter make sure you get the same brand oil as the filter...something about the foam can break down.....hope that helps

heck, I don't know what brand the filter is, it came on the bike. So I can just spray it with WD-40?

Spray on filter oil is the easiest way and what I do, don't really matter what brand, they just tell you to use certain brands so they can make extra money selling their oil.

And if you are out somewhere without filter oil, you can aways just rub some motor oil into it. I have done this when Im out on the trails and need to clean my filter. After I clean it, tip the quad over a tad to get some oil and spread across filter. As long as there is no completely dry spots you will be fine.

PJ1 spray one air filter oil works pretty good. It's tacky in a good way!
You can buy it at most ATV/motorcycle shops.

Your SUPPOSED to clean it every ride to be safe. But in all reality if it isn't dirty you don't need it. If ANY dirt is getting thru it, then you need to clean it more often. Keeping it oiled is the main thing.

Myself, I don't clean it when I ride around here on my buddies farm unless it is really dusty, but when I go to Haspin and it is dry, you know how dusty it gets, and on those days I make sure to clean it ASAP before the next ride.

To each his own on the type of oil you use on your oilable air filter.

Airfilter Oil designed for airfilters IMO is your best choice. Droplets are smaller and help trap more dirt. As the old saying goes "Pay me now or Pay me later....."
