Default Transmission trouble need help

Ive got a 2002 650 p, got 1500 miles on it. Was riding down at Windrock Trails, when trans started actting up. It will still pull fowards, but only in neutral, then when in reverse the trany locks up,will not roll forward or back. This is not a linkage problem, I have checked that, and clutch and I have taken the cover off where the shifter shaft goes in to trany, can not find anything wrong. PLEASE HELP if can,Iam fraid its time to split case's.

I bet it is a shift linkage problem. If I were you, I would recheck the shift tierod adjustment before splitting the case.

I have heard this before about loose motor mounts/Does it show by by being able to trun the bolt with your fingers?...How many mounting bolts are there?..and do you know of anything else that comes loose? have about 2900 miles on my machine and it has been wonderful.

No, it cant be a shifter or motor mount problem, because I have the shifting linkage off. You can shift it buy hand at the shaft where it goes into the motor, and still does it. THANKS

Is the P650 trans a chain driven reverse like the P400? might be an issue there......

Jody,
Sounds like you will have to pull the engine if it does the same thing without the shaft hooked up. There is a squish washer inside the case the only way to get to it is to pull the engine and split the case. Sometimes the washer has been installed backwards and will not allow the shaft to return to its predisposed position. I had a similiar problem with my old P650 but along with not going into gear properly it would also jump out of gear. If this does not stop or you can't adjust the rods or tighten the motor mount bolt then there is a bigger fix involved. If there is a piece of metal from the washer or gear that has fallen into the trany then you are looking at an expensive fix close to $1000 mine cost me $800. I know this is not what you were wanting to hear.

I found it was a rev. gear sezed on the main shaft . Had to replace shaft, gears, some bearings around that area, all new gaskets. After all that its fine. From 1 to 10 ,it was a 10 on the scale of how hard it was to do,those motors have more parts in them than a swiss watch!!!!!!!!!!! It cost me about $300.00
