I was wondering how to minimize the dust coming into air filter box went on a 140km ride yesyerday bike had 1st service the day before they put a brand new air filter in i watched him do it got home last night hauled the air filter out and it was caked solid of dust i know you are going to get some but there should not be that much sucking in conditions were about 25% mud 50% dusty trail 25% hardpack no dust gravel trail
thanks for any help

I know it is a problem with the conditions that we drive in, but we drive with all makes of bikes and it is a problem with them all. I look at as a better thing that the filter is catching the dust rather than the motor. I clean my air filter and even more important, my rad after every trip. Spring, summer and fall is dusty even on the hard packed woods roads. Better safe than sorry. Happy trails.

Dont know if this will help but.... When ever I ride in the sand, which isnt much. I cover the opening to the air box with a ladys nylon to keep the sand out of the filter. May work for dust not sure. Key isnt how much dust is in air box but gets past the filter.

Spray the inside cover of the airbox lid with some white lithium grease. You know, the stuff that looks like thin foam from the can. Sounds funny, but works like a damned charm. You'll be pleasantly suprised at how much dirt and dust and even larger debris that the stuff will catch before it hits your filter. Just a little trick I picked up somewhere, probably this forum.

also an outerwears would work good for extending the life of your filter. Especially if you run a K&N filter.

amen to that. I like the nylon idea, I might try that out one day to see how well it works. My guess is it would restrict airflow less than an outerwears or precharger would. And the best part is it would be adjustable the tighter stretched, the more airflow. Might slightly affect jetting for fine tuning lol.
