V-Force 700 or Prairie 700??
#1
Hey Guys,
Need a little assistance. I've narrowed down my ATV purchase to two models. Either the V-Force or the Prairie, both 700 models.
I'm new to the ATV world and don't have anyone to reference. My wife says 4x4 because it looks bigger. The dealer says 4x4 because I'm new. But I love the look of that Orange (my favorite color) V-Force.
What do you guys think?
Rick

What type of riding will be be doing mostly? The V is the most capable sport ATV out there, its what i call an ultra sport utility. For an example, I have seen several people use the V to pull lawn equipment like fertilizer spreaders and such, the prarie trailer hitch will fit on the V like its factory.
If you are primarily in mud, then I'd go with the P. If not, you can't go wrong with the V. Hell, the V is even good in the mud, its got more ground clearance than most aport ATV's.
What it comes down to is what you need based on your riding. My dad has a P650 and i can follow him in all but the deepest of mud (he has 27' mudlites on his prarie). I personally love my V, I have ridden lots of machines both utility and sport, my friends own raptors and YFZ450's and i can go alot more places than they can simply because of ground clearance and that V twin torque.
The V fills a nitch that nothing else can, its the ATV for people who want something sportier than a sport-utility, but who still need functionality and/or user friendlyness.

oh and since they are both CVT automatics, the learning curve is nearly the same for each. The V is quite a bit more wheely happy than the P, but just dont mash it and you are in good shape...its always in the perfect gear.

Yeah it really depends on where you are going to ride and if you want to do anything other then sport ride with your quad.
If you are going to hunt or take long trips on your ATV then the V will not be for you.

Definitely depends on your needs. The V has only a few cons. Number one is mud/water protection. If you do not like getting wet or muddy, this could be big. Number two is lack of engine braking on steep declines. You can do pretty well relying of front brakes. The cvt can be engaged by "blipping" the throttle, or even turning the idle up when descending. Since it's so fun to "hot rod", you can go through a tank of gas pretty quickly. You can install a larger tank. That's about it. It is a great atv for tall riders that want something sporty. It is very fun to mod, but will eat your $$$ up

How much larger of a tank can you install? That is one of my concerns. I can see taking fairly long rides and don't want to worry about running out of gas. With a 3.5 gal tank, I'd probably be good for only about 2 hours. Would be great to have about twice that amount since there isn't many places to carry extra gas.

IMS has a 4.6 gallon tank. It is on my list of future purchases. I want to have a longer range for when I go on long rides and such. It should also be noted that some people have said that the stock fuel pump pickup will not capture the last few ounces of gas in the 4.6 tank, I'm not sure of the extent of this problem but I would bet its only a small amount of fuel.

If you see yourself taking long rides, there would be no question in my mind that I would need racks to take along fuel, water, food, survival and first aid stuff. Does it suddenly change from just right to cold in one day there? I carry enough clothes to go from 80+ degrees down to freezing blizzard. If nothing else, your hands can just about fall off in a cold situation in the middle of Nowhere, Texas, or if you are in the mountains on vacation.
To me, the V is for runnin' with the boys, but not way out in the boonies.
I like Team Green on my bike, but not as much as I did 2 months ago. It's just not as big a deal anymore.

Prairie for you, V for the wife!
I love my buddy's V, but if I could only have one, I would go with the P700, because it has racks, four wheel drive, a tow hitch and a low range....I also have a winch....and that winch hauled a sand rail out of the mess he got himself into, recently....Pretty darn handy, if you ask me.
But the V is definately a much more sporty ride. You can loft the front wheel anytime you want. It definately jumps better than the P700.
But the bottom line is really what fits you the best.....What are you gonna want to do with it? The P700 will do everything, the V700 is a great ride too....
I was going to buy the V700 way back when, but bought theP700 and have had zero regrets, it gets around fine and will rescue that V or any other machine if it has to....

When you smoke a sport bike on the V they will say it is because it has 700 cc's of power. When you smoke em on a P700 they say wholly **** that is one fast sport ute! Oh yeah you can pull em out of the thick stuff too.
