I can't answer your questoin, but I was wondering if you planning to pull the heads off yourself or have them take off the heads? If you are doing it, I'd highly recommend installing bigger cams at the same time. You have to remove the cams anyway to pull the heads off, so its not any more trouble at all. last time I looked, Webb cams were pretty reasonable ($230 or so for both).
PS - I priced porting and polishing about 1 year ago and got quotes of $500 to $600 to do both heads. Is this the same price range that you found or did you find a better deal?

the guy that will do it for me (a small grauge and i know the owner) said 150-200 dollars and he ill take t apart and put it back together. all i have to do is drive it down there (1 mile down the holler) and drive it back when he is done.

If he knows what he is doing than for that money I would get it done. I would also put in the cams when he has it apart. Have him also port the intakes. You will notice the differnce if you do all that. Make sure he knows what he is doing when it comes to porting. I am not sure if you can deck the heads to gain some more compression. If you can on that motor than do that at the same time. Bigger cams, more compression and head work will make a big difference.
