need advice on a tecate 4
#1
Hello, usually i stay on the bomb forum, but i need advice. I grew up on a kx 80 - 125- then a 250. I have an itch for a tecate. I was thiking about trading for a tecate, but i think i may just buy one, there is one on ebay now that i am looking at, how is the performance, and how does it compare to tdays quads 400s 450s 650s etc. Thanks Chiknhawk

The Tecate was the fastest of the three 250s in the 80s. EXTREMELY hard to find parts though. Most of the guys I have talked to on these forumns about them end up having to make things such as wider a-arms. I also understand that they were the worst handling of the three 250s. But if you want something no one else has...you cant beat a Tecate!

I had a 1987 takate 250 it's fast but my doughter beat me easy with her KFX700 9 out of 10 (I cheated the 10th time) I traded it for a DS650 now I win all the time.

I can see the Tecate getting beat if the race was on dirt. 2-strokes just spin at the start while a 4-stroke with an auto tranny like the V-force will simply hook up. My fathers DS650 baja will spank me (in a drag race) on dirt, but if I get a rolling start to reduce wheel spin...its no contest.
