Noisy transmission
#1
I have a 2004 Twin Peaks. When the transmission is in low and I give the throttle "stabs" there is a slight clunking in the transmission around the belt drive area. When I put it in high, there is no noise. Everything was just gone over from the dealer and it runs flawlessly. Is this a normal sound? I had read in some previous posts that the tranny is quite noisy. I don't ever remember there being a sound there before but mabye I just missed it.

Primary does make a clunk noise when belt engages(centrifugal force overcomes primary spring pressure, causing sheeve to close on belt). If your belt deflection is within specs, & all your nuts and bolts are tight/torqued to specs on primary & secondary clutch(s)wouldn't worry.

I got an 05 BF 650 that I thought the tranny was noisier than it should be.
Went back to the dealer and rode a couple 700s and another BF around the lot and sounded the same.
I think my problem was me being too worried.
I will have a new HMF pipe by this weekend so I won't hear any strange noises anymore.
Just exhaust and the wind whippin by.

It's normal. This topic has been touched on several times. My Prairie 700 makes a lot of clunky noises when in low-range 4X4. You should hear a V-Force with paddle tires go across hard ground. It sounds like the tranmission is disintegrating.
