WILL CHANGING A PRIMARY SPRING EFFECT ENGINE BRAKING?
#1
I"ve had my spring changed for a while, installed red primary, but never really payed attention to engine braking. I reciently rode at wolf pen gap in Mena Ark. It has some steep and rocky hills where I needed the engine braking but it wasn't nearly as effective as I remembered. The enging braking seemed not to work while the engine was at idle but when I brought up the rpms to match speed it seemed to begin to kick in. Also I don't remember hearing the actuator enguage like it did when it was new. I still didn't have any trouble with the hills it just would have been nice to have.

Yes it does affect engagement for down hill plus it negates any module you may have installed. Initial egagement with the red spring is around 3200 rpm you will need that rpm to engage the engine breaking advantage.

Yes the spring affects KEB
You can always try the EPI Almond or Pink or Dalton Orange/Blue any spring for less effect on the KEB than the EPI Red. Also, try raising the RPM to engage the spring before decending hills.
