Default Prairie 650 upgrades

Hey all,
I have my '02 P650 and was thinking about selling it and getting something new, but decide I'll just throw a few $s into this one since I only have about 1200 miles on it. So my questions are:
1. How are the ITP c-series wheels holding up? my stockers are beat and I've loved the ITPs for quite a while
2. I think an exhuast is in order. Any fulls kits out there that are state forrest approved, or whatever it is, and still sound pretty good? How is the power increase? and will I need to rejet air(running a twin air right now)?
3. Changing the front suspension worth while?
4. Anything else you can suggest? I'm pretty stock right now.

Thanks everyone.

If you want mod ideas for P650, I have a few for you.

IMO, the 2 best mods for a P650 is the tires and the Dyna CDI. The stock dunflops are good for nuthing but straight line drag racing (b/c they are so light weight). The Dyna CDI gives better bottom-end, mid range and top-speed improvements (cant get all of that with any module).

If you are into high speed trail riding or XC racing, then you may want to upgrade the front suspension springs to either Progressive Springs or Elkas. Progressives are cheaper and I like them...but most folks say the Elkas are a little nicer riding. You get what you pay for, so you choose.

I have the original ITP rims and have been pretty happy with them overall. Even tho they are made of billet aluminum, they are not indesctructable. I once dented a front rim during a rocky GNCC race last year and had to replace the rim. Unlike steel rims that you can bend back into place, its not possible to bend a big dent back on the ITP rims b/c they will just break off. Don't let that one experience fool you, I've been in a dozen XC races and that is the only race that damaged one of my ITP rims signficantly...otherwise, my ITP rims are in fairly good shape considering the way I use them.

NOTE: The finish on my ITP rims looks a little rough/dull now after approx 1500 hard miles...I tried a little Mother's polish tonight and they look a little better/shinier, but no where near as good as new. Even with the rough finish on them, I much prefer the look of my ITP rims over the stock rims.

Good luck with the mods and happy trails...

PS - Take a look at my sig to get a few more ideas of possible mods.

Almost forgot about the pipe question.

Besides owning a completely stock muffler, I've had the Nyroc modded stock pipe and now the full system Supertrapp IDSX system (with ceramic coating). IMO, both non-stock pipes offer negligible power gains. The biggest improvement is the quality of the sound. I think I got a small power gain (slight improveme when taking off from a dead stop) after I first did the Nyroc Mod to my old pipe, but its hard to tell if it was the Nyroc mod or the other mods I did at the same time (including DAJs, Twin Air filter & Napa hose). Likewise, I put the Supertrapp pipe on at the same time as other mods, so I really can say how much power gains the Supertrapp alone gave me, if any. I honestly think you won't gain much power with a new pipe and that your money is best spent on other mods (unless you just want a better sounding pipe). If you want a quiet sounding pipe (like I prefer), then do the Nyroc Mod (its cheap!) or get the Supertrapp. However, the Supertrapp is technically the only one of these 2 that is US Forest Service approved. The Nyroc Mod guts the stock pipe such that it probably don't technically pass the US Forest Service without some sort of modification. I actually had a small screen installed inside my Nyroc Pipe to act as a home-made spark arrestor. Not sure if it helped or not, but in theory I felt safer about using it.

Happy trails...

Thanks mikey,
I already have the tires in my sig and they have done great. Most of my riding is done on trails(no racing) so I guess I shouldnt have to worry much about breaking a rim, just scratching which I was concerned about. I dont know how much more power I really need because it really has enough power now for what I need. I was thinking exhaust more for the new sound. I've heard the dyna CDI is great and thought about it as well. The springs would probably be the most important thing for me to start with. All this will be after I get my axle replaced. I just found out I bent it and its causing my rear diff to leak. Have you heard about many people bending the axle? thanks.

Haven't heard of a lot of folks bending their P650 axle, but I have heard of one of two. Do you hit jumps with your quad or perhaps you've nailed a tree or stump out on the trails?

Good luck with that repair. By the way, I parted out my old 2003 P650 recently and sold the rear axle to someone for dirt cheap on ebay ($75 if I recall correctly). Check ebay, you may get lucky and find a similar deal from someone who is parting out a Prairie 650 or 700.

Happy trails...
