Prairie 700 cv axles rebuild or replace?
I have a 2004 prairie 700 and the axles are on their way out clunkin and clickin, I have found an entire replacement axle for 200.00 or I found the gorilla heavy duty rebuild kit for 135.00 for each joint. What is the difference between the heavy duty kit and a regular rebild kit? Is the gorilla rebuild kit worth the extra money?
I do ride the poor quad pretty hard so I want something the will last at least a little while, I have the high lifter lift kit and 28" gators so there is a little stress on these axles. Any info on these will be greatly appreciated

Prairie 700 cv axles rebuild or replace?
Hi Kegbasher,
Typically the problem is that the outer cv joint on the Polaris is made to move in and out about 3/4" since the inner u-joint is fixed. When you lift the bike you pull the shaft out away from the joint this will cause it to over extend thus pulling the axle apart. Or in some cases the cage will break and the ***** will fall out leaving you with the inner race tumbling around inside the joint. However, on the late 2004 models Polaris went to a plunge type inner cv joint which offers a little more movement than the slip type outer cv's. This will give you a better chance of getting away with the lift kit but only a little since it will allow in and out movement of about 1 1/4". So with all of this in mind I think you'd be better off with getting the Gorilla extreme axles since they come with a plunge joint on both ends thus giving you about 2" of movement. I carry these same type of axle for the smaller Polaris models for a lot less but I don't have them available for the 600 and 700's yet. The heavy duty rebuild kit might buy you some time but they are not bullet proof. As long as you have it lifted you're flirting with deasater. If you have any questions or want to know more PM me and I'll be glad to help.
Thanks,
Dan
