I had been contemplating about putting on a full belly skid plate on my KVF(Prairie)700, but been dragging my *** on it, finally broke the speed control sensor while backing up in some dense brush. A 1' diameter branch went above the existing plate and struck the speed sensor and broke it off ahead of the connector. Lost the speedometer, odometer and 4x4 would not engage, I am guessing because the speedometer was at zero the computer didn't think the bike was moving and not engage the 4x4. I had spoke to the dealer over the phone, he thought I was nuts. I ordered a new sensor $100.00 cdn, installed it and all is back to normal, no bush riding until I put on a skidplate. A skidplate would have also saved me from getting hung up on a small stump last december which crushed the end of the oil filter, I was real lucky that time. Any prairie owners that run off the beaten path I strongly recommend installing a skid plate, it may save you some aggrevation in the future.

 

Hey Prairie owners--take this message seiously--the stock skid plates are a joke--they leave some pretty important areas vulnerable---i also ran over a stump once and crushed my oil filter---fortunately it didnt leak and i was able to continue riding---i rate a new skidplate as a "MUST HAVE"

 

but takein them off the beatin path is half the fun i think i just watch out for what im riding over but i do most of my off the trail riding in the woods where there really isnt alot covering things up i do it to check deer trails thro out the summer and right befor hunting season
