97 Bayou 220 clutch cover got so hot it melted some wires.
ok guys here's the deal I have a 97 bayou 220 that I ride at my father-in-laws farm 3 hours away. This happened after he let a couple of kids ride it and he figures they didn't downshift when they needed too and just ran it at higher gears smoking the clutch. I haven't gotten to look at it yet since it is 3 hours away. It did make it's way home under it's own power but now the electric starter won't work i figure it's from the melted wires. I am guessing I need a clutch kit and can fix the melted wiring without a problem. I only have experience with the typical clutch basket arrangements with a clutch handle and the polaris pvt drive. any suggestions on where to get a clutch kit or what else the problem may be. I'd like to get the parts here so I can fix it next time we go out there. we are only there once a month at the most and it is in the middle of nowhere so I won't be able to get to a kawasaki dealer while I'm there. Also I don't want to leave it apart for a month because my father-in-law is a tinkerer and I don't want him messing with it since I think it is just a little too difficult for him. He's one of those good old boys that can fix anything with some duct tape and a coat hanger but I'd like to do it myself the right way.
Thanks to all you Kawasaki guys for the help.
Edit: I found a parts diagram and it looks like it has a standard basket type clutch even though it doesn't have a clutch lever. Where is the best plate to get a clutch pack?

see if KG makes one and if not check the dennis kirk catalog and versah should make one.....be shure to get the steel drive plates and some HD springs and not only the frictions........its really not too difficult to install, once you open up the clutch cover and look in side you will get it but it does help to have an impact gun to remove and reinstall the primary and secondary clutch nuts
