Default KFX400 or 700?

The only way a KFX400 can keep up,is if I was towing it.

Also, even that stock exhaust note sounds pretty bad *%@ on your quad. That sound could get addictive! As for "Mr. 4hundo", dude I have seen 700's that just rip off the line with only a few mods. You'll "smoke check" a 450R with your mods? I guess that means you can hang close enough to sniff his exhaust? Might want to race a few 250R's then, they smell better
Yeah no kidding, I was having enough trouble navigating the trails as it was. It was fun though. I just need to get used to those off camber sections. I do like those big uphills though. I think the 700 was made to ride hills with all that power.

Default KFX400 or 700?

I went to the budwieser drag strip out of my city on sunday and watched the atv drags in the 1/8 mile and was shocked at the performance of those vforce700s. They were neck and neck with all the crazy piped banshees and 450's. Mind you the 700's were not stock but I was surprised.

I am sure you have heard this before but i have an '04 Kawa 700 and honestly i couldnt be happier. I think that with the size you are it would be perfect. The 700 has the horsepower you need for windy trails and gut-wrenching hills. I know for a fact that you wouldnt want to drive a 400 in the snow over the 700. I am sure once u try both quads out you'll choose a 700. The 400 is a standard bike that Kawasaki wants people to modify to race but the 700 is in between that sport feel and the beefy 4x4 power. It is an excellent machine and i wouldnt think twice.

It's pretty much common knowledge that the 400 has a much broader torque curve then the yfz. The YFZ has a peaky powerband and is mostly top-end power (hence 11k rpms). Ask any YFZ owner, they'll tell you there is little bottom end on the stock motor to work with, making you row the gears a lot more.

A Z/X will have an easier time lugging one gear high, than the YFZ, I'll bet my pocket lint on it.
Well I'm not trying to start any fights either... but in my experience the YFZ had a better power curvee all the way to the top.... I just wasn't impressed b the KFX400 at all... I was riding my buddies YFZ up a small dune and then I paused for a moment and then powered back up to speed without changing out of 3rd.

Riding my other buddies KFX400, the bike had nothing until the RPMs came up so you had to change gears more often.

Sorry, not trying to **** anyone off, that's just what happen.

MetalAlien, did the YFZ you rode have an aftermarket exhaust? There is a huge gain down low with the right system.

Well this was last year, I'm not really sure... my bike was new at the time and I spent most of the afternoon riding mine... His bike is piped now for sure.. I don't remember if he had the pipes at the time.

This is the Kawie forum, so out of respect for the board I'll drop it.

the kfx 400 is lighter, handles better, and will outrun the 700, i know some people will disagree, but i have raced hundreds of 700s on my 400 and have never been beat in one in a drag. the 400s are a much better bike with less to go wrong on them. i almost bought a 700 but am more than happy with the results of the 400. plus its a sport bike they are not supposed to be automatic. one more thing the 05 kfx400 has gas shocks, makes for a better ride as well.

Sounds like someone who hasn't ridden a 700. There is nothing wrong with an "automatic" (it's a CVT, which technically isn't really automatic), it's perfect for the trails.

I wouldn't be surprised if the 700s you raced lost because they wheelied. It's a common thing when you try to put all that power to the ground too fast.
