you might even look into the wolverine 450, its a sport quad with 4x4... the best of both worlds! and by the way Torbinix, Take advise from an old guy... dont do the yoshi 450, you'll get overconfident and tear yourself up pretty bad... I did, and I've been riding for 20 years! lol just another one of those ingenious ideas I guess, go for the smaller 420, I had it then the 440, the 440 is pretty much uncontrollable

guys,, GUYS.. listen.. he says he has little to no experience.. i personally think he shouldnt be anywhere near a 400cc sport bike.. being 13 years old.. yes he might be responsible but then again might get carried away and floor the crap and flip.. it only takes ONE TIME and thats it.. your gone..

i think the 400ex is a bad bike for him because hes a beginner and cant do without reverse
z400/kfx 400, too much power..

maby a 250ex or something of that sort.. dunno.. hard to say cause hes tall.. but dunno

plus he probably has no clue how to use a clutch so im guessing he will rev the **** outta it and pop the cluch and gash his head open when it slams into the concrete.. not a good thing...

*edit*, also where did you get the 71mph figure for the kfx? max i got was 64 according to my trailtech and my friend got 67 but wow 71? maby with a 90 pounder

Well, if your 13 and you have experiance then I think you could grow into the z/kfx. They have a very smooth powerband. The biggest thing to consider is knowing your limits. That would be my only concern. It would be different if you were 19 at your size and experiance. I think that's why most people here are concerned too. At 13 your all full of **** and vinegar. But if your a responsible kid and can set personal boundries, then I see no problem with the kfx. I had a can-am 500 at 13.
I guess what I'm trying to get across is that you are no where near being too small for that quad. The only question is are you too young. You and pops should be able to sort that one out. If you are mature enough, I'd like to see you get that kfx. You can grow into that quad. If you were considering a yfz or something i'd say you were crazy. I do remember seeing two 16 year old girls in the letters part of dirt wheels. The dad sent in a picture of his daughter with her 450r, and his niece with her predator.
If you do get that kfx, make sure you don't try to ride beyond your abilities. You may lose your riding privileges. I know if I trusted my son to be careful and found out he was wide open down the trail, that would be at least 2 months without it. "Do as I say, not as I do."lol

your saying a yfz 450 is crazy but a kfx aint? Just cause the yfz can pull harder and bring it up to speed so much faster in 3rd gear or lifts the front wheels quicker and what not makes it beyond him now. Basically its a simple all or none type principal. Get a +400 sport and go all out but "know your limits" and "be responsible" and some other bs or get something small, wrack up some good exp and in a few years upgrade to a bigger size sport. No offense or anything but someone at 13 doesnt have a full grasp of world perspective and responsibility and as responsible as they say or seem to be they arent. You need to grow and mature and 13 isnt old enough. How do i kno this you ask? i have 2 younger brothers who are 17 and 15. Im saying he should go smaller than the 400 and you will be much happier overall, wont be at as a high risk of major injury or death, easier to learn on, save alittle money, etc etc
