I have a 1993 Kawasaki Bayou 400 KLF. I just got the motor put back together and it runs great. Only problem I have is sometimes when the motor is running the starter is also running. You shut it down and you can hear the starter kicking out. Now it doesn't do it all the time, probably 75 percent of the time. What could it be? A bad bendix? Does something need lubed?

 

Sounds like the switch could be sticking or a bad bendix......dont see anything else it could be....but I been wrong before..lol. Did you manually pull the start button back out when you start it? Mine sticks occasionally. BTW How has your 400 done for you over its life? My 95 is still kicking along with God knows how many miles.

 

No I didn't have to pull the switch back, but was thinkin about taking it apart and checkin to see if I can lube it with some di-electric grease. Well I just put mine back together today. I bought it with a dropped valve and replaced everything in the top end. I only have 1500 in the whole thing. But boy does it go,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,got it together, hit the key, cranked about 5 seconds and sat there and idled along great. I want to pull the thermostat and replace that also. Just to be sure. How hot does yours have to get before the fan kicks on? I had mine set there and idle for about 15 minutes and still didn't come on. Might have to check that also.

 

Not real sure on the temp...but mine doesnt come on a whole lot even in hot weather riding. I thought my sending unit for the fan had went bad once cause the fan never came on, but it still works. Id say if anything is wrong with it..the sendin unit would probably be the cause. Those are good ol bikes...tons of low end power and will climb a tree. If you bought it for hunting you are gonna love it because thats why I bought mine, couldnt have asked for a better bike.
