Default Boys, its been a long weekend on the BF 750

Well the title of the post says it all. I got in over my head this weekend, literally. Took the new BF out for some fun and ended up in some DEEP water. I inched my way out to see how deep it was and when I ended up on the throttle to get my momentum going it was too late. I shut the motor down because I knew that I was in trouble. The water was over my rear racks, and up to my air box on the front. My brother winched me out and I surveyed the damage. Water was coming out of everywhere, the engine wouldnt turn over and I knew that I was screwed. Since I hadnt much experience in this, I called my dealership and talked to their mechanic. He laughed and said that he should be good at telling me what to do because he had just done it himself last week. I proceeded to pulled the plugs since the engine was hydra-locked, and turned the motor over to shoot out as much water as possible. After that, I drained the oil, if that is what you could call it, and drained the fuel tank and carbs. I placed new fuel in, put new oil in and she started right up. I let the engine idle for a few mins, and drained and changed the oil again. I proceded to do this three more times ans that is where I am at now. The last oil coming out looked pretty good, and that was after about 1/2 our or less or riding. I have got a new filter and new oil in it now and I am going to run this for a while and then check out how it looks. Before the incident, I had given the beast brand new Amsoil and a amsoil filter so I ahot 40 nucks rights there, plus I am out another 40 in cheap oil that I have run through it for these last few changes. I really dont know when I will be able to go back to the good stuff but I just figured that I need to get to a good clean oil before I do. It has been running pretty well but it scares the hell out of me that my new $6,500 machine is now headed for engine trouble down the road. What do you guys think?????
Thanks Fellas

My buddy did the same thing with his. We were all sitting around the mud hole on the poker run, and NOONE was going in. It was my buddies first ride with his and we were all saying well I'll go if you do. So finally me and him came to an agreement and he went in first and I promised to follow. The first time he tried it, he got stuck, and had to be winched out. Now it was my turn and I went in and also got stuck. After I was pulled out, we both looked at eachother and said right after you. Well needless to say we both agreed to go in again only it was my turn to go first. I got some speed up and headed though it. Made it almost to the end(3 feet from shore) andm ran completelly out of ground clearence so I was done. Right after I was winched out I turn around to see my buddy heading in, and his machine just died. It had to be pulled out, and either sprayed in it to get it going. He babied it back to the truck, and headed home. He ended up having to change all the fluids, new plugs and wires, new gas, and have his carb cleaned. It was working fine until the last ride. His belt came loose and he had to be towed back. I have no idea if the belt issue is at all realated to the mud hole. I dont think it is because It has been on a number of rides since then. You never know though. The pics from the mud hole are in my pictures page. It was called pappys mud hole. Funny part is I was gonna go in a third time, but after seeing his die I thought twice about it . I still say I would have made it with a bigger run

Hope you get it all fixed.

sorry to hear of the luck. ya need to get snorkels on that sub. as for changing oil out have you been using a filter from walmart ? they are great for these instances. and cheap. when you sink your bike and your changing out try using diesel and running it only for a few seconds to get it good and sloshed around in the case, drain it, run oil drain it, then do diesel again... while doing this use the same filter just clean it out good with diesel and you wont have any problems with your motor in the future. AND you wont be out 40 bucks in oil... buy the cheapest oil you can find for this. no use in using anything good for cleaning out the motor.I think the oriellys oil is like 89cents a quart. and works just as well as anything else in this case.

Don't forget about your diffs. If you submarined it that bad, you probably got water in the diffs too. Don't take a chance. Drain them and refill them. Make sure your air filter is dried out real well. Replace your spark plugs and put a good size dab of dielectric grease in your sparkplug boots. Another thing you can do is run kerosene in your motor for a couple seconds. Kerosene is the main ingredient in WD-40 (Water Displacement) and is excellent at getting rid of water. Fill the crankcase with kerosene, run it a few seconds, shut it down and drain it, replace filter and refill with new oil and you should be good to go!!

I would also want to pull off the belt cover and make sure any moisture in there dries out...

I removed the pull start cover, and the belt cover and both were dry. I pulled the plugs and installed new, and put some dielectric grease on the plug wire connections to help corrosion. I checked the front and rear diffs and they both look good, they are the same level and color as before so I think that they are good. The machine starts and idles/runs great and the oil is looking good now. I have some new amsoil on the way and I will switch back to the good stuff after a couple of hours of running. Really, the only thing that is worrying me is the problems on down the road from now. The pond that I was in was very sandy, and under my seat and all of my engine was covered with sand after we pulled it out. When I did pull the air filter, there did not seem to be any sand in the filter or the carbs, but obviously the heads were full of water when it happened so I am hoping that I have it all flushed out. I would imagine that my 5 oil changes will get it out of the crankcase. I just hope that I dont have any sand in there that will ruin my cylinder walls or anything once I ride it for a while. I guess that I will jusy keep my fingers crossed. Thanks for the help guys.

all of these things are good to do, espescially dont forget those diffs, draine and refill. my friend has sunk his 650 prairie more times than i can remember and it runs like a top still. so dont worry about long term effects.
