Are V-twins just hard to start?
I had a P700, and now have a BF650i, and have had the same problem with both: difficulty starting when cold. I open the choke fully, and give it about 1/8 throttle, and the engine turns over 10 or 12 times before starting. Sometimes it seems that it will never start. I have a buddy with a Foreman 450, who hasn't cranked his in almost a year, and it cranked right up on the first try -- WITHOUT using the choke. What gives?

Yea the Brutes are cold blooded. I'm not having quite the troubles you have tho. I usually choke it all the way and give it no gas and it usually fires up. Lately I've installed the VDI CDI Copperhead and it makes cold starts a thing of the past. Now it seems as if I don't have to use the choke. Almost like its fuel injected.

2nd that on the VDI helping out with the cold starts. Before I just had to open the choke fully and hit the starter, it would take quite a few minutes to get warmed up. Now with the VDI, I still use the full choke, but it only takes about a minute or less and I am off and running.

Yes, they are hard to start when it's cold. When it's warm, my P650 would start right up with just a little choke and a little throttle. When it was warm, my P700 would start right up with a little more choke and no throttle. When it's cold, make sure you have a good battery for easier starts.

I live in manitoba canada, I have a 2004 p700 and I use it to plow my driveway, its in my non-heated non insulated garage, It has always started no problem, even in -30C, the only thing is you have to stay with it until its warm because it like to stall. I can even drive it right away with no problems, I also have a 2006 griz it also starts great but it has to be warm before I drive it or it stalls when I put it in gear.
