Default Service for Prarie 650

Does anyone know if it is worth @400.00 to get my 02 Prarie gonne over by my local Kawi dealer? They said they were gonna change the fluids, and adjust the valves. They also said it was a normal service for the milage on my quad. Is it worth it? Should I do it myself? Do they do anything else? 400.00 sounds steep. Any input would be great.

that sounds outragous. i do all of my own maintanance anyway, but if you can't, get a friend or another dealer or somebody else that can. shees, if the service takes a couple of hours, and costs you $50 in misc stuff like oil, filter ect.. you just saved enough to buy a Copperhead. (give or take a few $). wow, i think i already saved that much. maybe i'll go order a Copperhead for myself.
you should get a service manual anyway. the service manual is very detailed and easy to understand. ebay or servicemanuals.com should have the manuals, and there is at least one online somewhere. there is great satisfaction in doing the service and doing it better than somebody else would. if you need to spend hours on one detail, you can. your dealer probably wouldn't.

You might have them adjust the valves and you do the rest.

The Kawasaki service manual says to check valve adjustment yearly.
In 4000 miles on my 650 Prairie the valves need adjusting once. The other 3 times they were fine. One of the big things to do is drain your fuel bowls and look for dirt or crap. If you find any clean out your fuel tank and fuel system.

Valve adjustment should be 2 to 2.5 hours.

good luck.........handycap
