Default looking to buy new quad which 1 kfx 400 vs kfx 700

FOR THE RECORD: both machines are pretty much equally fast with the right rider on the kfx400.

The kfx400 should be the faster through the woods because it can be thrown around easier. The kfx700 is big an bulky and automatic. When rippin through the wood it is nice to choose the high end of a gear or the low. The only reason the 400 is just as quick is cuz the power to weight. If the 700 shed a few lbs it would be way quicker i bet. Ive ridden both an own the 400 an like the 400 much better. my friend with the 700 is not a huge kid (170lbs max) an im 165 an the 400 keeps up to him no problem an out jumps it easily.

The 700 can"t be beat in the woods. If you want even more, as stated you can do pipes and other things. Auto is thew only way to go for this 36 yr old old guy.....good luck!

I ride a 03 KFX 400, I bought it brand new and rode it hard since day one. Its been a great quad. I also have a friend who runs a kfx 700. I've rode it a few time on the trails and was very unimpressed. The thing ways too much and its to big to keep up with a modded 400. I can smoke it off the line and usually stay out in front. Its like a Utility quad on steriods. I'm running a FMF PowerCore Pipe, K&N filter, jetting, and just received my new Big Gun Rev Limiter. Got AC Stadium bumper, AC Nerfs, and various add-ons. Go with the 400 it wont let you down.

Let your friend put on those mods and see how the race ends then. There is no way that mod for mod or stock vs stock a 400 is going to win. Unless the guy on the 700 can't ride worth sh*t or is 50 or 60 pounds heavier. There is a technique to getting it going even though it doesn't have a clutch. If you punch it too hard you'll stand it straight up.

Wow, you guys have some slow 400s.

My '05 is totally stock, my Father's '04 KFX700 is totally stock.

I can't beat him in a drag, but I can hang right there all the way through the gears.

Eventually however, my 5th gear has a higher top speed than his top gearing does. If given a long enough race his eventually winds out and has no more gearing, I eventually inch away every time.

In the woods the 700 is big and heavy, but a big strong rider has no problems.

do you like to shift? Yes 400, No 700. Simple.

If you do like to shift, you should look at every other sport quad out there before you buy a KFX400. The new Zuki is a 450 and has EFI. The Yamaha 450 is bad azz. The Raptor 700 is also efi and great. The Honda 450R also very nice. Oh, and there's the Predator 500 and the new irs Outlaw.

The KFX400 is the budget buy in the 400+ class at this point.

Another point which was previously stated is "rider weight". If your over 200lbs and or taller, you will probably love the 700. You may feel a little squashed on any of the smaller 400s and such. Bigger riders should have no problems with handling the heavier quad, which when used properly, will perform very well in almost any area. I would assume a lighter rider would have traction problems when it comes to draggin the V cause, I'm over 250lbs and my V will stand straight up, and spin on a holeshot, while I'm hangin over the handlebars. I have some mods, just as most would, and I'm impressed with the performance of the V-twin 700.
I think apples and oranges when it comes to any 400 and the 700V.
