Default 2wd&4wd lights switching, cant be good.

I noticed for a week or so that the 2wd and 4wd lights are sometimes switching back and forth. I read in other threads that it could be the ebc motor. I have a 06 650 BF, so I guess it is the same as older models. Can it opperate without this ebc. I find that this bike almost has too much engine braking going down hills and probably can be better without it. Anyway, is it expensive, and is it an easy task to fix without having to bring to the dealer. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Rendell.

Just a follow up. Read a few earlier threads that said to just unplug the wire to the ebc. I did that and the 2wd and 4wd lights are still blinking back abd fourth. Is this also a problem, and if so, is there a solution that won't cost $250. thank, Rendell.
ps- can I still ride without damage to the bike.?

You did the wrong end.
Do replugging the Controller (16-pin) connector under the seat. Do not confuse with the CDI which has 3 connectors. Better yet, you may disconnect the battery cables from ATV and reconnect. This is trying to reset the flashing. Yes, you can still ride the ATV w/o damanging further. Just eitherEBC or 4WD would not be working, depending on the flashing mode.
If still in warranty, have dealer figure it out if above reset does not work.

It's still flashing back and fourth, but I can select either 4wd or 2wd and there is no problem. I will plug ebc back in and disconnect the battery for a while and see if it helps. Also some threads mentioned maybe discarding the ebc. If I do that , will I be in only 2wd or 4wd.?

Discarding the ebc?
It's up to you and I've seen some folks doing that to get more free wheeling... but I wouldn't do that to mine since I go over lots of steep hills. With the ebc removed, you can still control between 2/4wd as long as the Control unit does not fall into the mode 3 failure. Then, the default is 2wd only regardless of the 2/4wd switch position. However, you wouldn't be able to tell "easily" whether you are in 2 or 4wd from the meter because it is now flashing back and forth. I just don't like anything flashing on my ATV or car...

MY eb actuator was shot so what i did was to unplug my eb actuator and on the 4x4 light i just put a peice of electric tape. THats the only thing you can do i balieve unless you get some type of cdi or such. Also, since you unplugged our actuator, you might want to try this mod. I did because the fork was sticking at idle and it also gives you a little more power. Try it, its really easy.

Read on the High Lifter forum. There is a post asking the same question as you.
