sheave problem

sheave problem
I was changing my spring and while taking my belt off I scratched the inside sheave of the secondary. There is a little gouge in it and a small piece of aluminum was sticking up. Should I just sand it down smooth as possible in that area and hope for the best? Am I completely screwed and in need of a new inner sheave? Very nervous now; I dont want this to rip my new belt apart.

sheave problem
I would just smooth out the damaged surface as best as you can and see what happens as you said. That would be the cheapest way to go. Possible problem after doing that could be a jerking motion or knocking noise whenever the belt rides on that exact spot. If that happens, you may need to get a new inner sheave (~$200) or, if cheaper, have a machinist weld in a small aluminum piece and file it down to even out the surface. I thougt about JB weld but it might not last long enough. Anyway try easy/cheap method first before you spend too much $ on it.
BF750 and '05 and later Pairies have a (very slightly) stepped angle sheaves on the drive side and earlier Prairies don't. They are interchangeble though AS LONG AS they are swapped as a set (of movable and fixed).
Good Luck.
