My friend has a Bayou 220. The driveshaft boot has been torn again resulting in a large loss of oil. This will be the third or fourth boot we will have installed. Has anyone managed to fabricate some sort of shield to protect it? It is a real PITA to remove the rearend and fix the damn thing.

I would be interested to know what type of terrain your friend is riding through that keeps damaging the shaft boot.

I don't know where he busted the last one, but the one before that got torn on the trails behind my house. The terrain it got torn it consisted of lots of brush and dead trees cut for a power line.... we assume a stick jammed it when we were going through some brush.

Stick stopper brand protecters have the best protection of shields I have seen. I'm sure there are better ones. Don't know if they make one to fit your bike, though. One place I know that handles them is cabelas.com
