I just bought an 86 bayou 300. It starts somewhat ok, and idles good and has a little bit of throttle response. But at about 1/4 throttle to full throttle is sounds like the engine is on a rev limiter. What would cause this? I have checked the carb, and dont think thats the cause. It sounds electrical. Could it be the pickup coil? Any ideas??? Thanks alot!!

 

Heres an update. The guy I got it from said he replaced the CDI box and that didnt help... I tried a different coil... That didnt help. different spark plug.... Didnt help. So, that leave the pickup coil, and the stator correct? I tested both as the manual said, and the were both in proper range. But thats with the engine off. It runs fine at an idle, so its not too suprising that it shows a good reading with the engine off. Is there any way to test these with the engine running so I can rev it up and see what they are doing??? Thanks!!
