went to use my winch this weekened, & the "in" would not work on the rocker swith but the "out" did work, any idea of what might be the problem???

 

Dirty contacts? Does the solonoid click? Try some contact cleaner.... might work...

Not too familiar with the switch you have tho.....

 

I alos have problem with it but mine sparks when realed in and actually give you a small shock like it is gounded to the frame. But i have checked all wires and there is not a cut or anything on them what is going on. It is also not pulling as hard as it use to now with this problem.

 

Same think happened to me last year with the same winch. My relay is mounted under the battery, so it's subject to being dunked in water from time to time. The seal must have been bad on the relay because water got inside and it got fried. Luckily it was warrantied, but this is almost a $100 part. You should be able to check for voltage on the blue and yellow wires when you are trying to run your winch. Red should be hot, black ground, and when you push the in or out button you should have power to one of the other two wires. Mine only fried the "in". I put some silicone around the new relay so there is no way that water is getting in this time.

 

I have been reading these posts and still thinking about a new winch. I have a 2000 lb that never gave me any trouble yet, but it hasn't been used a whole lot.
Now for my new winch I am leaning towards a 3000 just for the lifetime warranty. With these parts being expensive and not real easy to get, wouldn't it be worth it......or not??

I had a different poblem. My winch chewed up the end case which is plastic (they all are as far as I can tell).

Before I put it back together, I welded the internal nuts to the internal bracket because they were merely held in place by the plastic end caps and spun like nobody's business when rusted and corroded. Nearly impossible to disassemble the thing....

 

I did the exact same thing. Mine was only a year old and I wanted to install a fairlead roller but I had to disassemble the whole thing to get those nuts off. Just put a small spot weld on each and it will hold it fine. Roofer, if you are happy with your 2000 lb. winch, just stick with it. If it ain't broke....well you know.

 

Thanks, but I'm not replacing the winch. I need a new one for my BF. The 2000 is staying on the prairie.
