Default 06 BF650 Puffin white smoke any ideas before I talk with the dealer ship??

06 650, I've got 130 miles on this quad now, just over 11 hrs or so. Doing some riding last night, twice under full throttle condition I noticed a bit of lag in the motor, both times I looked back to find a quite a bit of white smoke pouring out the exhaust. After letting off the throttle it went away and didn't come back for about 20mins then it did it again. Everything else with the quad was fine, no lights on the dash and it didn't seem to be running hot at all.

The only thing I changed was I installed a twinair filter last night. When removing the factory air filter I noticed that under the metal screen where the carbs are there was what i thought was a bunch of air filter oil around the carb openings. Even a little running down into the intake. Looks to me like the dealer just loaded the filter with oil. Can a bit of oil in the carbs make that much smoke???

what makes white smoke?? is that water getting into the motor??

Anyways I want to give the dealership a call today but I'm not to sure how competent they are. They just started selling Kawi about 2 months ago. Any input you might have would be appreciated as I will directly relay that info to the dealer...

thanks guys

Water makes white smoke. Was it submerged anytime you know of? Usually the after white smoke effect is burnt rings, then it gets exspensive!! But if you havnt swamped it, it wont cost YOU anything!

V2 is on target here. This is exactly why I never submerge my machine under any circumstances. Nothing worse than getting water in there. I get a lot of heat when I ride with people and the make fun of me, but I guarantee my Brute will last twice as long and run better than there abused machines submerged in water will. These machines are just not made to take it on a constant basis. Sooner or later a gasket or a seal is going to let water in. These machines are too damn expensive to sink up to the handlebars. I am looking to buy a beater one just for this purpose.

White smoke can also come from burning oil that is in the exhaust. He said it was at wot that it happened. This is when the exhaust was at its hottest point, enough to burn the excess oil. However, I agree that the primary cause of white smoke is coolant.
I would check the coolant level and the oil level. I have heard of some Kawis, if you don't shut the fuel off, getting excess fuel into the oil while sitting. Also, overfilling the oil has been a problem.
If he hasn't abused the machine, let the dealer check it out. That's what a warranty is for.

First off I really appreciate all the responses!!! thanks

I figured it out last night. The oil that was in the air box was engine oil...the drain plug was full of oil and it backed up into the air box. I started the quad last night let it get up to temp, shut it off and checked the oil WITH OUT THREADING THE DRAIN PLUG IN. oil level was just over the high line. way to much oil.. when i threaded the plug in i was 1/2 inch over high level.

That kind of explains why I could only get this to happen in one location. Uphill with WOT I had so much oil in my air box that it was running into my carbs. See what I mean about dealerships!!! it seems like any JOE can work on ATVS and they are becoming so complicated as it is.....So I have to give a thank you to the only two dealerships I trust. Sean @ Monroe Honda and Brian @ FHK (Freeport) ILL. too bad they are both 80 miles from me.....

Oh well, I changed the oil and put in the proper amount and now all is well........

thanks guys, PS I also had a starting problem that turned out to be loose batt. connections again....LOC tight took care of that..
