300 bayou power loss
My buddy has a 2000 300 bayou 4x4. The thing just started losing power after a head gasket change that was done professionally. It starts and runs beautifully in neutral but as soon as you hit the gears it is a real dog. He rode with me last weekend and the thing will barely come out of a rut even in low range. It doesn't use or leak oil from the head gasket repair. I'm wondering if somethings up with the carb??? I ride Honda's so I'm not used to the Kawasakis. I will look in the manaul as well but just wondered if anyone has encountered this or knows what to look for.

Two things to check are: engine compression and compression release valve. Engine compression should be anywhere from 115 PSI to 180 PSI. Check the compression release and make sure it's not sticking or broken.
If you don't already have one, a service manual would be a good investment.

115-180 is a very big range...........115 is way too low and 180 is way to high.......a good engine with good power should have around 145-160 psi...it is also possible that they didnt retime everyting when it was put back together.....i would bring it back to who ever did the gaskets becuase it is probally somthing related to that.
