I've had my quad for about 10 months now, Prarie 300 4x4, and although I don't ride it much, the times that I do ride it, I ride it hard. I only have about 75 miles on it, but those are 75 miles of hauling, climbing, pulling and rough trail riding. My question is, should I take it in for it's 1st scheduled maintenance already? I don't know how many hours are on it, just the mileage.

One dealer quoted me $160 plus parts (oil and filter extra), that includes; adjusting the valves, oil and filter change, new diff fluid to rear diff and inpecting the whole unit. Seems kind of high, is this the norm?

On my new honda i have almost 40 hours on it and 475 miles. The dealer told me to bring it in for the first service between 30-40 hours and he wants $75.00 for the exact same things as you mentioned.

I dunno but I think thats real high! Last year I had my first service done on my 400 and I think it was $25. oil and filter included. There was a visual inspection but no valve adjustment ( only 400 km, at my request). Also, this was in Canadian funds!!

My dealer told me about 150 bucks after 30 hours. I asked what they did they said they have to adjust everything.. Including the rear brakes, the valve, belts, they check the trannie and the motor. Apparently they say everything comes out of adjustment after the first 30 hours. I don't know if i wanna spend the money to do it. It seems high. They also do the oil and lube and the parts are included.

I pay a little over 100 buck for my maintenance trips to the dealer. I took it in once when new and again this year before deer season started with 1800 miles on it.

Thanks for all your inputs. I've talked to a co-worker who works for a Yamaha dealer, and he told me to save my money for now. Even though it's almost a year old, it has low, low miles. He told me wait until next year, or until I put more miles on it. It's not broken in according to him, and I could possibly be wasting my money. he did say the $160 is a fair price for the work though.
