02 praire 4wd only arms getting tired
ok my buddies 02 prarie 650 is stuck in 4wd and the 2wd and 4wd lights are flashing back and forth at 1 second intrevals. ive tried all the resetting things belt switch, twisting fuses to make them tighter. im not sure that the flashing lights have anything to do ith lack of 4wd but maybe anyhow any help with this would be greatly appreciated. thanx

moosin,
Resetting belt switch procedure has NOTHING to do with 2/4WD light flashing. Belt and 2/4WD are two different systems. You confused me when you said the quad is stuck in 4WD and then you mentioned "lack of 4WD" which means to me that it can't engage to 4WD. What is it? Also, does the EBC actuator cycle (homing) for a few seconds, when you shut off the engine? If not, you have either EBC actuator and/or Control Unit problem.
Let's try simple thing first.
1). Unplug/replug the Control Unit which is a smaller black box under the seat.
2). Remove both EBC and 2/4WD actuators and do visual inspection.
3). Apply 12VDC directly to each actuator (Red+ & Blk-) at the 4 pin connector and make sure they are working/rotating.
4). If all good and still troubled, you may need a new Control Unit.
Good Luck.

thanx hayashi my bad it is stuck in 4wd and the display flashes at 1 second intervals entire time bike is on and when engine is off. took both actuators apart and everything looks good. did the plug thing on black box but nothing. im going to take actuator off another bike and try that hopefully i can narrow it down thanx.

Sometimes a bad/shorted EBC actuator can smoke up the control unit... Just be careful.
Also, when counting the flashing time interval, make sure you count the complete cycle time of the square wave. For example, 2WD->4WD->2WD, is the complete cycle. Just counting from 2WD->4WD or 4WD->2WD is only the half the cycle. You said, t=1.0 sec., meaning it is the 2/4WD actuator that may have failed. Also, inspect/replace the small alumimum block that is pinned at the end of the 2/4WD actuator motor shaft for any rounded corners. Apply lots of grease on that small block for longer lasting service...
Good Luck.
