Default Help....motor seems hot

Both my 700prairie and my 750bf ran hot and from what I understand, that is just the way v-twins run. It doesn't run hot to the point that the hot indicator light comes on, but close. It gets very hot on my left leg.....ugh!!! I have two questions. 1st, what can I run in the radiator that works better than antifreeze (ethylene glycol is antifreeze) and 2nd, is there any heat shield that I can use? I don't think the heat is coming from the exhust lead, but I could be wrong. HELP!!!!

Instead of antifreeze try running Engine Ice in your radiator. It's advertised to lower engine temperatures by as much as 50 degrees. I can't say it lowers it that much, but it certainly helps. I'm not sure about any shields, but the engine ice will help quite a bit. On my kfx-700, I've noticed the fan doesn't kick on quite as much since using the engine ice. If that doesn't seem to work you may look into an aftermarket radiator thats a little bigger. I'm not sure if you can get them for those models or not, but it's just a thought.

Default Help....motor seems hot

i installed a temperature gauge, and i was shocked. my fan diddn't even come on until 240*. that night i installed a toggle switch (wired to the two blue wires on the temp switch on the radiator) so i can turn the fan on and leave it on. this helps, but on a long hard climb it gets hot...

the header pipe is a big part of the heat on the left leg. some guys run heat wrap and say that helps. the biggest thing i can think of is to make sure the jetting is correct.

engine ice deffinatly works real good to lower tempertures so i would give that a try, you could also hardwire the fan so its on all the time and try one of those in-line coolers.....those are susposed to lower tempertures by 15-20 degrees too.........

Thanks for the good advice. Another question is: Do any of you have this problem? I though it just might have be my 700prairie, but when my bf750 ran just as hot, then I thought it was just the way v-twins run.
