I just wanted to leave a quick note for everyone to be careful. Out where I ride in WMASS, a teenage boy was killed over the weekend because someone put a wire across a trail and did not mark it. The news stated that he was dead on the scene. So, be careful when your riding, as I sure will for now on. My thoughts and prayers to his family.

TTP, there are a lot of variables we don't currently know about this particular accident. I really feel for the family though, that is about the worst thing that can happen to a kid. Hopefully others will take something from this though. We should always be diligent, even on familiar trails. You just never know when a tree may have fallen or some whacko decides to try and punch your ticket via booby trap.

I think it is probably a grumpy homeowner. This has been done alot here for the snowmobilers, but not sure if anyone was killed. Some people think they own their driveway all the way to the road, and that is not true. In MN it is legal to ride atv's in the ditch, but some people don't like it. Some people think if they mow the grass, they own it. I have been yelled at a few times, but when I tell them to come say it to my face, they normally walk inside their house.
I may be on the wrong track here, but I hope the family is ok.

I've seen for myself people who are angry at atv'ers stringing 30lb test fishing line through the trees to stop the riders and then the riders are seriously injured. 30mph and 30lb test could cut your head off. its a horrible thing for people to be doing. I can somewhat understand land owners doing something about people riding on thier property if they dont allow it but nothing that could kill someone. if I ever saw someone doing this I would make shure they wouldnt ever be able to tie a knot again.

I almost hit one once, its a scarry thought. Some one put barb wire between two trees in a strigh away where it was a known trail and one day it was there. If it wernt for the branches some one else set on it i would have hit it. It was back and forth about six times. No fence or anything around just random.

My heart goes out to the family of this child. (and any others who have experienced this.) I ran into some barb wire about 6 months ago. The bad thing was I had just passed thru that trail 15 minutes earlier so someone had just put it up but I never found out who. I wasn't hurt but I was sure mad.
