Slip on vs Full
#2
A slip on is basically just the silencer-muffler. For some 650s it's the rear cylinder head pipe and the muffler, don't know about your model. A full system is both front and rear head pipes and the silencer. I have had both a full system and a slipon and my opinion is if you are thinking of doing one go ahead and get the full system. My reasoning for that is if you ever decide to do any major mods like a big bore kit or head work then you've already got an exhaust that will work well. If you only had a slipon then with the other mods you would need a full system. Also a slip on will only give you a minimal power gain at best. The full exhaust will give you a little more gain but by itself will still not be overly dramatic. My full system also sounds better. The slipon had a decent sound but was sort of raspy, not nearly as smooth or deep as the full system. And believe it or not my bike was actually louder with the slipon. I had a HMF slipon and if never plan on any major mods then it'll be OK. Now I've got a Penlend race series full system. Just my opinion but if your gonna do it go ahead and get a full system. If you don't have a cdi check into them from Dyna or VDI. Both will give you way more power for the money than an exhaust.
