Default Kawasaki warrenty (charged for valve adjustment?)

I bought my Prairie 360 only 4 months ago. After putting 10 hours on it, I took it in for it's first oil change. When I bought it the salesman told me that the only maintenances I would have, would be the 10hr/100mile oil change, then the next service would be at 3000miles.
Anyone else had this occur. Can and should they be charging me for a valve adjustment after just 10hrs of riding?

Warrenties are for defects and things that break. Oil changes and valve adjustments are routine maintainence. Maybe some dealers will toss this in for free but most can and will charge you for it.

They aren't trying to pull the wool over your eyes or anything. The service requires a valve clearance inspection. This is included in your 1st service price. What is not included in the service is adjusting the valves. It takes longer to adjust them than it does to inspect them.
Your valves will go out of adjustment periodically and they will need to be reset. It is just a part of maintenance and if you don't do it you will hear the them tapping when they get loose. This creates more wear and a loss in performance. Warranty doesn't cover adjustments required in the maintenance schedule.

Neglected valve adjustment will cause the pounding valves to dig into the valve seat of the head, deforming it like a mushroom shape.

Another good reason to buy a manual so you can do it yourself.

I'm working on getting a manual, but don't want to do any thing to it myself until the 6 month warranty runs out.

I'd go ahead and get it now. Get yourself familiar with parts and locations. Not tearing it apart, just looking in the manual and finding that part of the quad. Can save you some head scratchin' later when you do need to work on it.
