First Automatic Quad....
I keep reading where people are saying to use low gear as much as possible. Does this help preserve the life of the belt or what? I mean I never use low unless I am towing a heavy trailer, or pulling someone else out of the mud. I dont know much about the automatics being this is my first one.

I was told to use low gear unless it was not fast enough for the speed I wanted to travel. The majority of the trail use and virtually 100% of use around the farm is low gear.
Since this was recommended by the salesman, the shop mechanic and what I saw on this and other web sites I have followed this advice.
To date, in spite of working the Prairie very hard, I have had no belt issues.

I use the Low Range gear whenever I think the engine has to work harder than nomral like when:
> Going steep up hill
> Towing/pulling anything
> Mudding
> Rock climbing
I also use Lo gear most of time when in 4WD as well.
And change to Lo gear if you think you are going to get stuck, before not after.
Not only it helps prolong the CVT belt life, it also helps better lubricating the top end engine parts by supplying more oil there - higher rpm menas more splashing of oil. It is a 4-valve per cyl engine and it is happier at the upper rpm range.
I am still using the original belt with 2+ years and 100+ hours on my quad - it still runs like new.
