From what I've seen, the 50 cc quad already comes restricted from the factory and you don't have to do anything. The drive converter (yes, it's got a CVT) has a collar in between sheaves to give lower gear ratio. The max speed is so slow that you can walk behind your kid on the quad. In fact, it comes with a rope and a kill-switch lanyard (dog leash), that you can pull from the behid to stop the quad in an emergency situation. Unrestricting the top speed might be little more challenging though.

Thanks for the info but I am looking down the road to see if it can be done at some time. Don't want to get stuck with a quad that won't perform.

Hey Pinhead.

I also have a KFX50 for my 8 year old daughter. This quad comes from the factory (note it actually is built by Suzuki) with 3 limiters.

* Thumb limiter screw
* Exhaust Pipe washer limiter
* Head Pipe washer limiter

Once you remove all of these, the quad goes at a nice pace. You can also get a CT Racing kit for it and then it will be a screamer.

Here is some more info about the CT Racing kit:

Good Luck,
Larry

Sorry about that, if it is a 2007 model, then yes it is a Kymco model. I have the older Suzuki alliance model.

I've never seen the Kymco models run, so I have no idea about those. Hmm, they are 4 stroke 50cc motors... yikes that is tiny. That would be like a 25cc two stroke motor.

Good Luck and keep us posted on any updates.

By the way, zuki's 2-stroke 50/80 cc engines were not really made by zuki either. From early 80's those little motors have been manufactured overseas outside of Japan for zuki, like in Korea and Taiwan. So, in theory, Kymco's 4-stroke quad quality should be in par with that of zuki's 2-stroke 50/80.
If 50cc 4-stroke seems too weak for your kid, try the 90cc 4-stroke. The chassis size is almost same if it is not exactly same. The 90 cc also comes with the speed restricter in the CVT that can be removed to make it faster.

NC state law requires that my 9 year old can only ride a 50. Does the 4-stroke move or should I look for a louder 2 stroke.

i think you should go with the 90 or 80. my little brother is 6 and hes been riding an 05 kfx80 (2stroke) since he was 5. it is a little bigger and much faster. my dealer said the 50 would be a waste becasue the kids grow outta them too fast.

It's the legality issue that the law abiding original poster is concerned about.
