Default Help - problem w/650 Prairie warming up!

I just purchased a 2003 650 prairie w/ 1000 miles. The bike runs great once warmed up. It takes a really long time for the bike to warm up just using the choke isnt enough. I have to give gas w/ throttle also to keep bike running until warmed up. Alot of people said it might be a valve adjustment, the bike is totally stock and never been adjusted. Any suggestions?????

It seems to be a common problem.
Mine is like that since new.
Just seems to be the nature of the beast.

Let me know if you find a fix.
Mine is a 2002 and has 6900 km on it now.

i've got a 07 650 and it does the same thing. get a dynojet kit. they have a stage 1 in the kit that will get rid most of that cold natureness and low speed hiccups and keep your stock exhaust.

Most Kawi's V-twin quads are really cold blooded and would not run well if not fully warmed up. The quad would stall, bog, hesitate, pop, huff and puff... I'm sure many of you have seen this. Raising the jet needle a bit or just moving up to next richer one usually takes care of it.

Regardless, you should check/adjust the valve clearance which definitely helps the starting. I would check/adjust valves every 50 hours no matter what.

Has anyone ever adjusted their own valves? Is it a difficult job and what would be proper clearances? Is it worth tackling a job like this on your own? Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Ajusting valves is not hard it just takes time.Check your manual for spec it is in there.Make sure the motor is cold when doing adjustment.
