Same here, got about 75 miles on my praire...so far so good! I love everyhimg about it.......but be carefull of water depth!!!!!!!!Know the height of your inlet tubes for the belt housing as getting in over this will be a wet belt problem! The other day I went thru a hole were the front racks went completely under water....gave her the gas and went right on thru........no wet belt.....because even though the water was to deep I kept forward motion/ if I had got stuck there well...............

The pro's of this 4 wheeler are- great plush ride, great usable power in stock form, cool digital speedometer with 2 trip meters and an hour meter, reliability that will surprise you and a low price- I hope he didn't pay retail.
Con's= no selectable 4 wheel drive, limited slip front end.
My 99 400 4x4 now has 2311 miles on it with better than average maintenance record for the mileage (considering the way I drive it).
Your dad will love it, my dad can't get enough of his 300 4x4 w/ 2600 miles on it.
One thing to check on right away- Trace out the tranny's intake and exhaust plastic pipes then give them a good tug at where they connect to the transmission housing. They will most likely need to be tightened. My first prarie's fell off in my hand. My second worked itself loose after the first long ride. Just tighten them up and they'll be just fine.

I have had a 2000 and have a 2001 KVF 400 ( Canadian for Prairie ).The negatives are: no engine breaking and inability to switch between 2 and 4 wheel drive. It is quick enough, very comfortable, great fit and finish, and as reliable as any other Jap quad ( yes, including Honda ). Every bike has its + and -. Dealer service is perhaps the greatest factor of all in choosing what to buy, with the exception of Polaris and Arctic Cat. I wonder why Kawasaki has'nt caught on in the quad market?
