Kawi Prairie 700
#1
New here,
Just bought 2004 Kawi prairie 700, man, this thing is nice, This is my first Kawi, and I am very impressed with the throttle response, hill climbs and overall handling. Even at 50+ mph, this thing feels stable. The only thing I will have to get use to is the engine brake actuator sound, which is kinda annoying, on the flip side though, it works great, I dont take a nose dive when I let off the throttle.Overall, during these first 10 miles of ownership, I am very very impressed.
Question1- Is there anything I should look out for other than the belt thing?
Question2- At $4500.00 spent, did I get as good of the deal as I though that I got? (I am pretty sure of the anwer, but just checking)
Any input is appreciated, and I look forward to hanging around here from time-to-time.
BTW It has 198 miles, 44hrs, Red with mossy oak camo cover, 2500# WARN winch and 27' Mudlites, other than that , pretty much stock as a rock...

Ya man, you made the right choice. I have had mine for 1700 miles and have only had to change the belt once, otherwise she had ran like a bute. The bst thing about them is the pull in diff, it has saved me so many times, and i love it, good choice of atv, if you have anymore questions, just ask, and that sounds like a hell of a price depending upon wut the plastic looks like but have fun with it. Truthfully depending upon how u ride i would take the winch off cuz its quite hard to do wheelies with it on in the grass and wut not. But nice ride it'll get the job done.

Your P700 is one of my favorite quads, and it is also one of the best overall quads in the sport-utility class out there that many people don't know (Kawi made for only 3 years). It may look little boring compared to current sportier and angry looking quads, but the P700's engine/chassis combo is just outstanding. $4500 sound little high for '04 but as long as you are happy with it, it shouldn't matter. What if you paid only $3900 but you hate it?
Things to watch.
When in storage or trailering, turn fuel petcock to OFF position which is not a vacuum operated automatic type to avoid fuel filling up the crankcase.
Keep front diff gear box with 10W40 synth oil.
Check/adjust valve clearances to spec.
Hook up a auto-trickle battery charger when not riding.
Get a genuine Kawi service manual which would be your best investment for your quad (if you use it).
Congrat on your great P700!

Good choice and not a bad price on your P700. With such low miles on that quad, I think you paid a decent price for it. There are cheaper P700s on the market, but most have more miles on them.
Say, I'm a fellow Texan too...if you want to give that Prairie a real work-out, you should join me at one of the XC races we have in and around Texas. I currently race on a Twin Peaks 700 (its the same quad as the P700, but with Suzuki stickers on it) in the utility class of the ATVCCS series. Our next race will be in Bryan, TX on Sunday, March 18th. Let me know if you are interested in joining me for this race...I've been doing XC racing on a Prairie/Twin Peaks for over 3 years now and its a blast! For more info, go to www.atvccs.com or check out the local atv forums at www.texasatvs.com

Cool, I appreciate everyones input. I actually bought that service manual 2 days ago, and I just got done changing the oil/filter, coolant, cleaning the air filter and the spark arrestor. Didn't have much more time left to do anything elso, but I will look into the valve clearance thing as soon as I get more time. All the maintance stuff seems fairly easy to do.
Though a bit pricey, the service manual seems like a good way to save some cash by doing some of the routine work myself, instead of the stealership.
Don't have to worry about the trickle-charger, because my butt will be on it at least 3-4 times a week (work/play).
MikeyBoyesq that sounds like a blast, but I am not sure if I can get enough time these upcoming weeks, because my major exams are coming up. I will be on the look-out for the future ride-out's, it sure sounds like a blast.
Again, thanks for the input, now I just have to learn how to pry my behind away from it...

Additionally - there has been a recall action on the front ball joints - so just check with your dealer that your atv has the "right" ones allready.
by the way - anyone has any experience with adjusting the fuel mixture. We have a 95 oktane fuel here - so I am just wondering what and how needs to be adjusted.
