Definately check your belt deflection, there are plenty of guys running 27's and bigger without a clutch kit and no belt problems.

I've owned a semi auto tranny ATV for years and towed huge loads and never really hurt the thing. Towing kids, 4x8 trailers full of cord wood over rough terrain etc.... fine no problem.
I like my new Prairie but I was totally pissed when I went and towed the kids on a small toboggan in the snow. One 70 lb kid on a plastic sled in snow.....I didn't use low b/c I almost redline at 20 kilometers per hour -boring!- so I went into high and did some medium fun sled towing. Guess what, $180 later I had a new belt installed in my first 50 km of riding!!! Now I'm forever worried about burning the belt....I go way back into hunt camps and tow a trailer and now I'm gonna be worried if I"ll be able to get back out bc it's too hard to try to keep with the others up in low.
Anyways, I've riden all sorts of machine and I've never had this feeling of constant worry!!! Good bike but the auto tranny is a true Achilles heel.

bill ...."Belt had slight burn mark....had been engaged when loaded or stuck....parts $100.98 + $65 labour plus 14% tax + $189. 22 total.
The price is not so much the point here but the simple fact that I can cause damage so easily to a wear item was unbelievable. Now I cannot tow my kids on a sled at anything over 15khp!!! or I burn the belt??? I've done this for years with no problem at speed....It's like telling me not to press on the brakes too hard or you'll damage the and need to replace them even if you only do it once. I only did this towing for maybe 5 minutes a about 15 to 20 kph.
BTW where can I get a belt at the price you mentioned....obviously my dealer has taken me for a bit of a ride. Like I said I've driven snowmobiles for years and yes I too pay about $50 for a belt that is approx twice the size of the one on my bike.
thanks

The belt probably wasnt that much, but its probably 100 dollars for labor. Im suprised. I pulled my truck up my driveway, and still have 1200 miles on my stock belt. I havnt had any problems towing trailers, ATVs back to camp, and out of holes. I will stand behind my Auto.
