Plenty of guys use their machines for pushing snow with 54" blades also. A blade like that full of snow would weigh plenty more than a kid on a toboggan. Something has to be wrong with the sheaves or the alignment. Take it to the dealer, It should still be on warranty. I bought a spare belt for my machine and it was something like $110CDN.

The machine is an '07 and was still well under warranty. When I heard a clicking noise and funny vibration from my machine, I simply took it to the dealer for what I thought was warranty repair....I didn't think that I could possibly have a 'wear item' fail so easily. So the dealer found that I burned the belt. In Canadian $$ for OEM the exact repair
bill ...."Belt had slight burn mark....had been engaged when loaded or stuck....parts $100.98 + $65 labour plus 14% tax + $189. 22 total.
The price is not so much the point here but the simple fact that I can cause damage so easily to a wear item was unbelievable. Now I cannot tow my kids on a sled at anything over 15khp!!! or I burn the belt??? I've done this for years with no problem at speed....It's like telling me not to press on the brakes too hard or you'll damage the and need to replace them even if you only do it once. I only did this towing for maybe 5 minutes a about 15 to 20 kph.
BTW where can I get a belt at the price you mentioned....obviously my dealer has taken me for a bit of a ride. Like I said I've driven snowmobiles for years and yes I too pay about $50 for a belt that is approx twice the size of the one on my bike.
thanks
Dave
ive seen belts on ebay for $60 american im sure there are some generic ones cheaper.. I think there are some underlying issue with your clutch..

my 01magnum got stuck in the mud were all the wheels didnt turn and i was gunning it on low 4x4 for about 30sec before the wheels started to turn and my belts fine. also pulled out three sports quads out of mud and deep water in reverse never had a problem (i think reverse is the same gearing as high i dont know) my tires are stock 24in so that maybe what helping to not cause a problem.
