the new big bear 400 is a torquey mud machine. Not fast but a bullet proof engine. Semi-auto clutch, super low 1st (granny gear)the 07 model comes diff lock, IRS ,stock Mudlites.
Since I ride a Yamaha I'm sure it will be to nobody's surprise I would say get the Yamaha big bear 400
good luck w/ your purchase

Im looking for something like the prairies oil bath rear brakes, the front diff lock, then on the honds the reliability and the gear driven and manual shifting. The Big Bear has that... But is it going to be reliable? and its giving up the EFI. I have had hondas and kawasakis but never had a yamaha. Input would be nice, Thanks Jordan

dont know the yama' toys, but my cuz' rides a 350 Bruin. It runs very good and does almost everything my Priaire does...
only issues he has is gear oil issues being sucked out of the box, but that is probably a quick fix???
Like I said, all the machines are just about as tough as you can imagine. 4x4 quads offer a lot...
however, it sounds like you need the Kawi
best buy for that money...
biased probably, but hey, prove me wrong...

I'll bite...what does your pairie do that the bruin can't? I'm interested. I have never had any mechanical problems with mine, gear oil is fine. Never got stuck on something that others were able to overcome.Gone everywhere kingquads and polaris 800's have. Other then that everywhere quads in our class have gone.
Flipped it end over end 1x. Rolled it a few, fired right back up. Plows fine, hauls wood through streams. Carry's me around (215lbs)
Well if you can get anything out of this Jray, its obvious that the both of us are happy with our machines
He is right there are alot of good 4x4 atv's Just all about what you want. I think any brand (Yamaha, Arctic Cat, Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Polaris and can-am/ brp will do you good it basically boils down to brand loyalty and what features that are model specific that sway your opinions.

what can it do over the Bruin...well that locking diff. is the only thing basically... I can crawl better up rocky hills and dig/pull better...but not much more...
The Bruin actually a nice machine for what your buying...it can tackle a lot out there, with ease I might add. Actaully seems to have more top end too, but not as much torque or pulling power...

Well i have to get them all side by side and ride them, my dealer said when they see the money i can test them. go figure.
On a different note how is that Venom winch? I haven?t done any research on it yet but figured id ask.
I know of all the features and differences between the quads, im looking for long term reliability. Honda has the name but that doesn't meant anything. Is there any one who has or owns them both or tied all three that can speak up? Thanks a lot Jordan

winch works very welll...
A lot of sceptics out there, but I have it now for 1 1/2 years and its been used for pulling me out of holes, up grades, pulling out friends and plowing. It works very well. My cuz with teh bruin has the samw winch and same success.
I beleive it has steel gearing, whereas I am told (not sure of truth) the warn's are plasitc gears all models under 2500 lbs.
So for a 2K winch, its been worth the money for me....

I also have a venom winch. I have the 2500# model. I have been nothing but neglectful to it and it works fine. I bought it in June. For the money you can't beat it. I have also used mine to plow and had no problems with it.
